Who can apply?

Western Isles Development Trust covers the whole geographical area of the Western Isles and can accept applications from the following provided that the project’s main aims cover at least one of the Trust’s charitable purposes:

- Community, voluntary groups and social enterprises which operate primarily within the WIDT area.

What are the priorities for Funding?

Within the Company and Charity objectives, the Board’s current main focus is to assist projects which will:

(i)Support the alleviation of fuel poverty; and
(ii)Promote renewable energy schemes.

The Trust is currently inviting applications for funding that will specifically meet those criteria (whilst also being in accordance with the Trust’s wider objectives). For the present time, applications which do not sufficiently meet those criteria will not be successful.

What financial assistance is available?

Projects may claim up to 50% of total eligible costs from WIDT.

The maximum grant/loan request must not exceed £10,000.00 per applicant. However, the Directors have the right to award higher loans/grants in special circumstances based on application strength and community benefit.

The minimum contribution from the applicant (cash or in-kind) is 5% of the total project costs. All in-kind contributions to be costed based on guidelines issued by WIDT.

WIDT can be the first Funder to be secured, from there you can go on to secure match funding.

The grant/loan can be used for Revenue and/or Capital funding.
